The Village
The village is a 15mm walk away, there are plenty of great restaurants,
but the majority of facilities are in the main high street.
Restaurants, bakers, spa etc which are typical of a ski resort
village.
Skiing is a great mix of easy through to
one of the most infamous black runs in Europe! Most of the
of the piste are east facing so the snow stays in good condition
all season.
Price
Price wise: the cost of skiing in the area is fantastic. It’s
marketed / targeted to the French so us Brits don’t
get charged for ski passes, restaurants or, hire of equipment,
or drinks, like some of the more famous resorts.
Family skiing is very important for Le
Grand Bornand. They say if the kids don’t enjoy it
no one does so a big emphasis is put on family fun.
I have skied in many French resorts for
30 years and it is the best all round resort I have been to.
Summer
My wife prefers it this time of year.
The lake is only 50 minutes away which means that when the
weather is hot it is a great place to swim and spend time
on a boat, or eat overlooking the lake. There
are boats here if you are that way inclined.
Other activities are endless: Golf
courses, horse riding, walking, climbing, great public swimming
pool, cycling (Le Grand Bornand will host a stage in the Tour
de France this year) , mountain biking. Paragliding is also
a great attraction with world championship events taking place
regularly.
